Team Venom ROM

Eagerly awaiting to see what Joel's been cooking up in the meantime..I haven't touched the original ViperRez due to the camera and the original kernel's overheating/battery life issues (tho I hear that in combination with the global leak and different kernel it does way better) but if it looks anything like the ROM recently released for the Desire, consider me itching and flash ready to give this another spin.

Does anyone else have issues with their camera on this rom? Is there a fix? My camera shuts down upon trying to take a picture.

My phone has a viper inside of it.

No problems here. Im on 1.0.3 with vinylfreak89's kernel (with video fix) and global RUU firmware.
Face detection turned off, auto focus on, geo tag off.

Glad you brought the kernel up. Why would one want a different kernel than what comes on the rom?

This particular kernel was made specifically for Sense 4 ROMs. I think the original kernel was just a Sense/ICS kernel, but not nessasarily purpose built for Sense 4. It kinda smooths out the edges and the battery life when combined with the latest firmware does improve. Your not going to suddenly start getting 4 hour screen on times but I typically get just about 2hours screen on time with the standard battery and no bump charge.

Where do I find it? Do you flash it like you do a rom? And do you have to wipe cache, dalvik, and data? Sorry for all the questions but again, I'm learning. :D

Here is the kernel. [KERNEL] Rezound Global OTA (4.03.605) Sense 4 Kernel (VIDEO FIXED) - xda-developers

So I'm on CleanRom right now and want to flash Venom. What are the proper steps, I first want to Ti backup apps, then do a full wipe, then flash the Rom, then flash the kernel that was just linked?

First make a nandroid, then TI backup, do full wipe, then flash ROM, flash kernel in hboot if your S-on. Boot to ROM and remove the PH98IMG file off the SD card and enjoy.

What if I'm still S-off?

Oh well then it's even easier. Make all the backups and do the data wipes but then just flash the ROM, the kernel will install automatically.

My phone has already been injected with Venom... Can I flash just the kernel above, or does it need to be flashed along with the ROM? I'm S-On.

Ok I downloaded the kernel. Do I need to wipe before flashing? Is flashing a kernel any different than flashing a rom?

You can just flash it but you'll have to do it in bootloader as a PH98IMG file. Or push it over as the boot.img with ADB (command prompts).
Remember to wipe cache and dalvic cache before flashing a kernel.

As stated above, you only need to wipe cache, and dalvik cache.

One last question regarding the updated kernel...

What kernel version will show up in the kernel properties screen if I have successfully flashed?

Alrighty. Since flashing the Venom, I have noticed that my external SD card unmounts spontaneously. I have had to go into the settings and remount the card on several occasions. It's pretty annoying. Anyone else having this issue? Is there a setting I am missing to enable the card to stay mounted all the time?

Do you have SuperSU in your apps folder? If not, try to just downloading that from the play store. It should have it installed already though, wonder if you got a bad download? Check the MD5, you might want to flash again if they are the same.
