Hello,

I was trying to see if I can remove my battery from my phone (Sony Xperia Z3 Compact).
In the process I tore the outer "foil cover" of the battery like that shown @02:50 in the below video where they also do it removing the battery.

It exposed some sort of metal plate underneath. Looks like stainless steel to me.

I don't have a battery replacement (yet), but the battery still works and everything seems to run fine so far.

What is this cover for? Is there any danger of fumes or something since I tore it open and it is no longer sealed? I ventilated the area after I did this, just in case. Should I be worried about using it? Is it "dangerous"?

Thanks.

That foil is a safety measure to prevent the battery from venting toxic fumes in the case of an internal short or other damage. If you've ever seen a puffed Lipo, it's that foil that prevented it from going nuclear, so to speak

I would not use it period at this point. For future reference, you should've waited until you had the new battery before pulling this one out, just in case something like this happens and you aren't left without a usable device. Live and learn.
