Telus just released a version of froyo for the Desire(official)

To update go in the settings app and seach for a software update!

Just did mine succefully

Yep, showed on mine as an update window. SMS is better, rotation is not only limited to one side, apps on SD card.

Free up at least 25MB of space on the phone before you start, it cycles a million times through install if you don't, constantly reminding you to free up space but never really giving you time to do so.
