Hi My phone is new. I downloaded and installed KIES from Samsung specifying the model etc. I noticed that a "firmware update" popped up. I tried to backup contacts via the link but there was an error and transfer was not possible. I tried it a few times but this firmware alert kept interfering. So I let it go through. Turns out the update was the 2.2 update. The contracts etc still can't backup after phone and Win 7 PC reboot.

- blue tooth is poor on this phone. The startup volume setting is way too low and if I turn it up it reverts back to the default very low setting on the next voice dial attempt.
- the voice synthesizer is pretty crude and barely understand what its saying.
- there is no prompt voice to issue a command and the screen does not wakeup, accessing the power button and volume to bring up the volume is impossible while driving. They are hard to locate and activate.

- After the 2.2 update all the Samsung widget were purged including the weather clock i had before. The list of others are useless. I was better before.

- contact setting don't allow for a primary action for favourites. Too many keys to press while driving when voice prompts don't work. there is no confirmation given it just dials whomever it things I asked to call. With the volume so low I can't hear what is going on.

Now having said that. This is my third Android phone. LG Shine PLus (best), HTC Desire, (two) very good bluetooth while the Fascinate is clearly not even BETA level in operation.

I hope Samsung addresses these issues very quickly or the phone's going back.

One further note in reading some threads, the bottom navigation buttons still go off in 4 sec with no control to delay them. A real nuisance.

sounds like a bad flash. us verizon schmucks still have 2.1, and no problems like that. i would try flashing again with a restet and cache wipe.

I also have the telus fascinate and did the 2.2 update the other day. I am not experiencing any of the problems you are listing. At first I noticed the os was actually slower, but a battety pull fixed that and now its blazing fast. My beautiful weather widgets and lpp and most widgets I had didnt load after update but I just had to delete and re load them...im guessing something happend in the flashing process..my contacts copied fine and everything backed up normally...sorry to hear about your trubles just letting you know there is hope lol

Gunner said earlier op. Sounds like you had a bad flash. I installed the Froyo on mine and my fascinate is running fine. All the apps are there even third party apps.

Update fixing

Well that all sound promising. If I get back what I lost at least then I'll be happy. I never used bluetooth before the update since I just go the phone on the 23rd. It seem real dumb not to be able to preset of change the volume output on bluetooth. All the other phones (Android did except this).

Question now is how to reflash (I did not loose my contacts or other settings) but it seems stuff is missing as well as functionality. Kies 1.5.3 handled the firmware update so a manual flash of the file process is what I'll have to find out. Otherwise I'll take it to store to fix it. I should note, this is a fully locked phone, unmolested with a few apps on it as well as Samsung update apps via their app loader with appears on the screen.

Kies does not do anything else of use. Must be a bug or not Windows 7 compatible but there were not choices on the Samsung website when I specified the phone I had. Nor was the update listed there it appeared as a alert to install the firmware updated as soon as Kies detected the phone.

I am new to this forum but not to this technology since I goth fascinate. Had Desire and had bugs, hardware as well after two bad units I switched to the Fascinate. I have LG Shine Plus and its great product all around. I have been a Palm Treo 650 user for 3-5 years and have all my data on it. Migration is tough especially for contacts which some were copied to my simm and into the Android phone but thats only 10% of them which is enough to get by.

Thanks for ALL the feed back and info. Thats what forums are about! Great!!!!

Going out on. A limb here, but just wondering if this is the same Canadian triplec from back in my CS / Ghost recon days?

Do you have mail account setup in the "EMAIL APP" on the first screen. It's green, I say that because there is also a Samsung email app in blue part of their social club and I don't want my mail on there systems somewhere. However, if so in the first app. I cannot tag emails for deletion as I could on other phones. In Menu there is no Delete option and I have to open the individual email in full read mode then I can see DELETE text if I press the menu button. Thats all wrong as well.

Thanks

No I don't use the main email app, I used to but I noticed that you receive emails more in real time on the social hub unless its just me. But if I remember correctly if you check the checkmatk besdlide the email in your inbox an option should pop up asking if you want to mark as read unread delete etc. Sorry for grammar I know this is bad but I'm driving lol.

I received my replacement Fascinate today. I test all the key areas in the stock configuration. All is working (stock is also 2.1), however bluetooth voice dial is an issue.

- no initialization to make a voice call
- screen of course does not wake up when pushing the bluetooth button for voice
- manual voice work very poorly with the "Voice Dial" built in app, it does not prompt for commands and unless the screen is awake and unlocked you would not know it. But this all requires a lot of button pushing.

- on the plus side I can hear via bluetooth at the default volume setting and it appears to retain the custom setting.

- no dialing by voice while driving

Bluetooth support is bad - I have a mirror and ear piece unit. I can pair with both but the phone will NOT connect to the mirror. I will work with the Jaba ear piece though and only last number called works. No linking to voice dialing.

Samsung will get another call either today or tomorrow on this. For a phone they value at over $500. It should be a walk in the park. Other androids work including the LG Shine Plus with 2.1.

After talking to two different Samsung support groups I got ahold of someone who new more of what needed to be clarified. However, There is some error on voice dialing. They said its not supported on 2.2 either. Well it turns out it is supported and works. The App handling the voice synthesis is Voice Dial. I'st know where near as good as the LG's Cybervoice or HTC Desire's also using Cybervoice. Voice dial does not confirm instructions heard it just does whatever it thinks it heard, period.

Everything worked after this update via Kies this time although there are no Samsung widgets group or specific applications of there's under 2.2. Looks like I will have to find a good weather widget showing time, Date and weather as the other android phones have.

Not sure if I should be creating a new thread for this question or not, but perhaps you could help me.

I just spent 1.5 hours manually updating my contacts on the phone. Tried using Kies to save contacts from phone to PC, but it doesnt appear to work. Seems to transfer etc, but then when I try to open the contacts backup file from Kies, it simply wont open anything. Strange?

Are you using the Contacts widget at the bottom left of the screen. You can edit them and tranfer them back to the Device. Importing contacts does not appear to be supported. I have tried a couple of VCF files I exported from my PIM of the old phone. I have had success importing via the file place on the SD card. But one at a time since it detects and imports without prompting.

Yah tried that too. I will try again and report back with the exact errors if any - thanks!

Sorry I can't help you with this I went through the same thing. After I did that once I saved contacts to sim card.

I did that in the beginning but it requires a unlocked phone to accomodate the Telus card to transfer data into. Too bad there isn't a conduit or import for Palm Contact databases. Anyway I have the main ones in the phone now others will follow in time. Kies is not great for this purpose unlike the Palm Desktop which I see now was evolutions ahead of its time. You'd think they'd take a page from that example and hotsync etc. OUTLOOK is not a Personal Information Manager(PIM) but just and easy out for some OEM's. HTC does not have anything for the desktop so this is something at least but I find it cumbersome and no soft manual to download to help.
