When I purchased the G4 from Verizon, the salesman sold me the Tempered glass protector and put it on for me. After shelling out the $18 bucks, I hated to do it, but after 2 days I removed the Tempered glass because there was an obvious lag between presses and response. After removing it, no lag, so be careful with which tempered glass you get.

I had a tempered glass screen protector on mine. Have been using them for quite some time on previous phones. I ended up removing the tempered glass screen protector from my g4. I found that the touch responsiveness was diminished to the point I wanted to get rid of the phone. I hated taking it off, but had to see if it was in fact the screen protector causing the problem. Once I took it off the responsiveness was greatly improved.
