Terrible battery life lately

I'm actually extremely impressed with the efficiency of the Moto X's display. I lightly used my phone today, SoT was a little over 1 hour, and the screen only used 2% of overall battery life.

From my limited experience, the biggest drains on battery life are apps or services that constantly notify or wake up your phone throughout the day. In my case, that would be Facebook Messenger, Google Services, and Exchange. This is the case with all Android phones. The best way to improve battery life then is to keep your phone in sleep mode as much as possible, and for Android that would be to uninstall any apps that constantly notify/update (I uninstalled Facebook and am sticking to the browser version now), turn off Location services, and turn on Don't keep activities.

With only a 2300 mah battery I think the Moto X is very efficient at battery draw. Android on the other hand definitely needs improvement, it's painful to see Google Services and Android OS use 7% of my battery throughout the day, while the display only used 2% for 67 min of SoT.

I don't know if my issue is exactly the same, but in the same vein. My phone was on the charger and was at 96% at 10pm. Woke up at 2am to feed the baby and unplugged it from charger. By the time I got done taking care of the baby, I picked up the phone and the battery was at 60% and was very hot to the touch. The usage monitor said that the display was the big user but how can that be when it was off!<br />

I recently got an OTA OS update (Nexus 5) and I've been finding some days that the battery seems very slow to charge. It corrects when I restart, but I'm wondering if there's something going on in the OS to cause that..?
