Terrible delay on camera?

Is this typical of all android phones, all HTC phones, all HTC Aria phones, or just mine?

When taking pictures, there is about a full half-second delay between pushing the button and the actual picture capture. This is terribly annoying. Not only do I have to hold the device steady for what seams like an eternity to make sure the picture is clear, but taking a photo of an action shot or a quick moment is impossible. I have to anticipate when I will want to take a picture, and then press the button about a second before that moment happens.

Yes, this is a problem on my HTC Legend as well. I'm not sure if there are any third-party apps that could help with this. When I was using Windows Mobile, you could just edit the registry to set the delay to zero and it would be instant.
