Which way is best to test if a card is real or fake?

If you have an older device handy, you could test it using SD Insight. (I think the app won't work on Nougat or above, but it's worth a try.)

Source: Amazon is plagued with sellers selling counterfeit SD cards. I started a thread a while back about relatively inexpensive SD cards. That same search also netted several shady ones. Like a 1TB SPY microSD card for under $40.

Quick question. What is the capacity and how much did you pay? A legit Evo Select 512GB microSD card will cost around $77. A 256GB $37, and a 128GB $19.

As far as I know, there are no 1TB Samsung Evo Select OR Plus microSD cards. I think Sandisk is the only legit 1TB microSD card manufacturer at the moment.

It's a 256gb and was 33 USD I think, I got it because the Evo Select is the Amazon branded version of the EVO Plus so buying it on Amazon would be fairly secure, but the 2 different apps I tried got a max of 41 in write speed when it should be 90

I should add that the packacking and card itself looks legit with made in the Philippines and white plastic on the sides of the card etc...

Well if its rated for 90mbps but shows 41mbps than its worth a refund. Unless its like my case where im using a UHS-II SanDisk Extreme Pro with 275/100mbps speed... And tests will never be able to achieve anywhere near the 275/100 mbps speed as its UHS-II whereas phones only support UHS-I...

Yeah, that is about right price wise.

Keep in mind that 90 MBps is an UP TO number and is a lab result and does not reflect real world use. There are other variables involved. It could be the app, it could be the card reader, etc. I have the Evo Plus and if I were a bettin' man, and used the same two apps as you, I'd probably get similar results.

Could the card be bad? It is possible. However, unless you have an identical Evo Select 256GB card as comparison, it would be hard to prove.

Well I formatted the new card in the Note 10 plus 5G straight out of the packaging, tested with only highly scored and paid for SD card testers from Google Playstore, si I would imagine it reading as high as it says on the packaging it can, maybe a little under but not half the speed or less

I used the following two apps to test my Evo Plus 256GB card.

Read: 77 MBps
Write: 41 MBps

Read: 82 MBps
Write: 42 MBps

Since the difference between our two cards is branding, I'm thinking your card is performing as it is suppose to. It's either that, or we both got bum cards.

My card is encrypted. I am assuming yours is too?

That is pretty much what I got for my Evo Plus, which has the exact same specs. Samsung doesn't test its SD cards on its phones. They are tested in a lab under optimal conditions.

P.S. I also have the Note 10+ 5G.
