Any tether programs on the market? I kind of been looking but gave up so thought Id ask the experts lol

There's PDANet for Android - USB only. A couple of people have tested it with the Hero and it works.

FWIW, I used PDAnet on my Centro and it was fantastic. But the Hero manual says that it can tether using HTC Sync, which is included on the SD card. Has anyone tried using HTC Sync yet?

Sprint has tethering blocked currently so even though the manual says it works, it doesn't. Furthermore Sprint won't let you add PAM to the Everything* plans and this is what 90% of the Hero plans *are*.

I could not get PDANet to work through VMWare (it kept giving me errors when it tried to connect.) Also crashed Windows XP when I tried to install it on top of HTCSync. I removed HTCSync and it installed. I hate Windows.

Update: I was able to get PDANet to work under VMWare by uninstalling the HTC driver.

However this is still not acceptable since I am a Mac user.

Use PDANet from June Fabrics

ugh ill still have to carry my pre to tether with ........ suck

You don't need to keep your Pre to tether. I have used PDAnet with all of my smartphones: Windows Mobile, BB, Palm OS and now Android. It is the most stable and just works. There is a one time fee but if you want to tether through Sprint they will charge you $40 per month. PDAnet also allows for Bluetooth tethering so you don't need to use a USB cable.

I would not recommend tethering over using a broadband connection like Cox or Time Warner because it will be much slower.

I have a Hero and I just hook enable share connection under wireless settings and never had any issues connecting to the internet

Same. Using HTC sync 2.05 from HTC website and I have no issues, but I do have PAM active on my account.
