I havent heard anything about this at work. It. My guess is, the tether will always remain free, as its part of the software...
Please don't lump all Sprint employees together; there are some that actually know what they're talking about
Tethering is free as of now, it's not advertised as such, but nonetheless, it's free and ready for you to use. Sprint is working on a solution to this though.
im under the impression they have no software updates for this phone, so how will they check. all the others use a sprint app to verify they are paying for it.

Proof that it isnt a free service so please stop spreading that it is. Sprint is aware of this and they WILL be charging for it at some point. When that is I dont know but I dont want everyone feeling as though this is a free service they are entitled to. This is a page from the Playbook issued thru corporate Sprint channels a week prior to the launch. The 2nd issue should answer your questions.
Seems like sprint could easily show google how they have lost x amount of dollars ( potentially in the hundreds of thousands of dollars) due to free wifi tether, and google might go along with it.
That analogy is flawed. Its a same logic that RIAA and MPAA tried to use about pirating movies.
As far as google doing something about it we can take a look at tmobile. Nexus S has been out for a while now and google didn't disable tethering on it. Besides like people said users on the forums who use this are a very very small minority at sprint.
I for one wouldn't pay for this nonsense. I have unlimited data on my account. Others might disagree but I follow that logic. I don't use tethering often but when i need it i use it.
You have unlimited data on device and the terms that they and you agreed upon. Tethering without paying is against the TOS. It's what you agreed upon when signing the contract. If you don't get caught then well you don't get caught but then don't complain if they eventually charge you.
I think it would depend on your usage. I have a feeling that they would contact you if you were using tens of gigabytes every month. If you keep your tethering at lower volumes, you may not have an issue.
