Tethering Issues

Alas...I couldnt get it to work either.

UPDATE: But I was able to tether using "Wireless Tether" via my Thunderbolt, so all is good!

I'll have to try this again, for I got it working. I'll post differently worded instructions soon. Sorry about the wasted time.

Has the OG Droid issue been resolved. I have an OG droid and Xoom
and they tether nicely via bluetooth with WIFI tether 2.07. Can't get the
Sammy 10.1 to work, anyone with any ideas?

Have rooted HTC Evo 4G running CM7.0.3 (tethering built into ROM) and this provides wifi data to my GT10.1 flawlessly. Tethering 4G in Denver now as we speak.

I think my phone just works differently. Can't even access bluetooth options for tethering, and my thunderbolt is rooted

Thanks for the bluetooth tethering instructions! I bought my gt10 today and it worked perfectly paired up with my droid x!

My point exactly...I think the phone you're trying to pair it with also makes a difference. My devices were able to pair using BT, but I was never able to tether them to use the Internet connection.

Your droid is broadcasting in ad-hoc mode. Once the Tab gets rooted it's an easy fix to let it recognize ad-hoc but by default honeycomb does not. I don't know if there is a way to make the droid broadcast in infrastructure mode but start by googling that.

You will need version 3 of wireless tether.

For example, I was able to tether flawlessly using my Thunderbolt and Wireless tether v. 2.0.7, where others were not.

For those trying to pair devices together, probably best to try different options until you find one that works...some great suggestions have been posted on this thread.

Do we think there will be any hope of plugging in a NON-rooted phone (evo) running PDAnet to a NON-rooted tablet's (G10.1) USB port (through adapter) and getting a tethered internet connection?

alittle confused why can't you just turn the wifi hotspot on your phone on and then connect your tab as if your phone was a router?

I currently tether my tab to my Sensation's stock wifi hotspot Sense app and have no problems.

Has anyone tried PDANet Tablet Beta? (its in the market & free).

I have pdanet tablet beta installed, and pdanet on my blackberry. I was able to connect over bluetooth, but can't get internet access. There's no tethering profile under the wrench icon next to the paired phone. I think that may be the problem. If anyone has any ideas to try, let me know. I know they are connected and can exchange data because I was able to transfer my contacts from my BB to the Galaxy. But no internet. :(

All you have to do on your phone is turn buetooth on, make your phone discoverable, and pair with the tablet.

I've got an HTC desire which i root as needed with z4 root. I use wifi tether w/default settings with no problems.

no go here either for non-rooted devices either BT or the PDAnet for Tablet app. :'(

i tried against both my epic 4g and evo 4g.

Which provides the fastest Internet speeds for the connected/tethered device? Bluetooth or WiFi Connection?

BT is capped due to standard, I believe. Wifi depends on service bandwidth.

I am using a Samsung Droid Charge - Rooted with Gummy Charge 1.8.5
The instructions you posted I also found at:
http://forum.androidcentral.com/mot...-android-phone-xoom-no-root-app-required.html

Unfortunately I was never able to replicate this on my Droid Charge. I do not have the option on my Samsung 10.1 to tether (Wireless-Bluetooth settings-Paired devices-*wrench icon*)
The only options shown are are to rename my device (SCH-I510) or unpair.

I will attempt with a friends Thunderbolt later today.

To all those saying that tethering works between 2 different android devices:
Are you using the stock hotspot/tethering app included on the phone? My official Verizon Hotspot tether works fine. However (since Verizon stopped the free tethering) I had switch and have tried Barnacle, OpenGarden, and Wifi Tether 3.1 beta and none of them will tether from 1 android device to another.

After some research it seems that it is due to the difference between ad-hoc and access point wifi as someone already pointed out.

Anyone try PDANet and have any luck?

So, when you click on the wrench, it doesn't offer "Use for Internet Connection"?

I am in the same situation. Droid Charge, 1.85 GummyCHARGED ROM, and I have tried downloading Wireless Tether 3.1 and Barnacle and they aren't working with my Charge. Any ideas?

You're pressing the wrench on the tab, right?
