Tethering with preloaded tethering app

Hey guys, I have a rooted thunderbolt running BAMF. I am currently using Barnacle to wifi tether, but the speed is much slower than if I use the tethering program that comes with the phone, the one that is turned on by pulling down the menu and checking the wifi hotspot icon. This may be a very dumb question, but with Verizon's tirades against tethering I want to be cautious, is it a bad idea to use the preloaded program? I worry because Verizon might be able to tell I'm tethering when I use what may be a program they made and then proceed to throttle my connection.

If it is a bad idea, does anyone know what the deal could be? I'm getting 5 up/ 5 down with the preloaded program and .5 down and 5 up with barnacle.

Any help would be appreciated.

Google Wireless Tether apk. I have had good success with version 2.07. I have ran my laptop off it with no problem.

Unless you pay for the verizon mobile hotspot most likely it still will not work. It checks with their network before allowing you to connect through it.
Jeckel51 mentioned wireless tether, it works great. I had great results with 2.0.7, and the newer experimental version. Very fast!

I used Wireless Tether app 2.0.7 also... I don't use it much, but while I traveling with my wife and did not have the internet... I used it for a couple days so she could check email on her iPad2 and do a little surfing... it worked great... and at the end of the month I was still under 2GB of data total for my phone and for having the tether app running for a few days here and there. Not bad for still having the old unlimited data plan.
