Tethering with the Evo 3D

why nit try klink? Its so easy to. Frickin use and its cheaper the pdanet. I bought it for like 2 bucks on sale and it works everytime.

Barnacle doesn't work for me but wifi tether does you just need the right version and change the settings. Works great.

It works consistently for? What version do you have? What temp perm root do you use? what settings did you use?

yep works consistently... well the only thing is you have to run superuser every now and then first, probably because it's not running when some apps take over memory space. No big deal cuz you get a msg when you start wifi tether if it's not running. You just exit and run superuser and go back to wifi tether.

here's the link w/ detailed instructions and even a video guide. I followed it exactly... the site has the links to the temp-perma root script, which works perfectly... just remember the last step of turning off the screen and waiting so the phone doesn't reboot on you while trying to root it. Also the link to the wifi tether apk, which he says is no longer available out there... but he provides it on his site and works for our evo 3d.

How to get FREE Wifi Tether Mobile Hotspot on your HTC Evo 3D! | HTC Evo 4G Hacks!

good luck, lemme know how it turns out.

Just tried the built-in USB tether on my Evo 3D. I think I can explain why a few people appeared to have it work, but most people don't.

In short, I plugged in USB, told the phone to do USB Tethering, Windows host, installed drivers on the Windows computer from HTC Sync. Turned off wireless on the laptop, and it seemed to work! I could get to the internet on the computer when the Evo 3D was plugged in, but not when it wasn't. But wait... how come I can still ping other machines on my LAN?

Yes, it turns out if Wi-Fi is connected on the Evo 3D, you'll actually be sharing your Wi-Fi over USB to your computer. I unplugged, turned off Wi-Fi on the Evo 3D, plugged in, and chose USB Tethering and got the lovely "Not subscribed to Hostpot (sp)/USB tethering service" window on the Evo 3D.

If you're able to do it with Wi-Fi off on the Evo 3D, then please speak now :)

Hope that clears up some of the confusion. I think I'll look into those apps now...
