Tethering without rooting on unlimited plan?

Unrooted Note3
Beware, I was using fattin hotspot widget up until an OTA phone update the last couple of days on the Note 3. WiFi tether will no longer work. reinstalled fattin.. no go. Guess I will have to root...
Thank you for the warning bucrepus. I was wondering if the OTA might cause tethering to stop working.

I had unlimited Verizon hotspot, but it was on a mifi 3g hotspot. I tried to pay full price for a new 4G mifi device but Verizon said it doesn't apply to data only plans and moving to a 4G device, even if I paid full price was a change in contract and I would lose unlimited data. I was paying $60 per month at the time just for the hot spot. I dropped it, and have used my phone as my 4G hotspot since then. I would have paid to keep it, but I figure it's one less device to maintain, charge, and keep around. The $60 per month I am now saving paid for my new Note 3. I held onto the old mifi for years but I am glad to be not paying $720 per year for something I am already carrying around.

Questions is would Verizon really know if I tethered? And if they did know would they do any
thing about it?
They could detect it if they want to, but they are barred by the terms of their block c licenses from preventing you from using an app that allows you to tether. They were fined $1.25M by the FCC for asking google to remove these tethering apps from the playstore. So although they could detect it, they can't stop you from using the apps of your choice on your device EVEN if that means you can tether without paying them an additional $30.
