Text input touch issue

Anyone having this problem:

On portrait-mode text entry, if you hit the 12# button in the bottom right so it switches to number entry, you cannot press 1, !, or _ (the 3 characters on the leftmost side of the keyboard). Slowly sliding across from the extreme left will only give you the next character. The rightmost characters work fine, as does the keyboard hiding button in the lower left.

I tried recalibrating the touch screen a few times but it acts exactly the same.

Very occasionally i can get it to work. Note that if i turn it landscape that same exact touch spot works fine.

i havent had that problem but what i did notice about the screen is i can only use landscape mode to type if i turn it to the left. if i turn it to the right it wont so the keyboard at all.
