text message history storage.

is there a way i can keep text message on my phone so they dont get deleted after the message history gets to long?
i have a text back up system but wondering if i can save to sd car for when text message limit is reached.
i have delete old messages turned off, but do they still delete after say 200 messages or so?

No you can change how many text it saves. All the way up to 10,000 I believe. Mine is set to only save about a thousand.

If you click the actual message you get the option to lock a message. When you go to delete it will ask if you want to also delete locked messages. Thats a way you can save a message.

I've had messages for weeks without deleting them.

All you need to do is open up your Messages > MENU > SETTINGS > Untick "Delete Old Messages".

So far, its helped prevent deletion of any SMS/MMS messages I have stored on my phone since day 1.

You can also back up all your texts with using SMS Backup+ which is in the market and works with syncing to your GMail.
