text message in lollipop

My mother's moto g just updated to lollipop and it's seems texting has changed. When sending a text you are prompted to speak with the Google Mic appearing. There does not seems to be a way to type your texts anymore. Has anyone else experienced this or know how to fix it?

Tap to the left or middle of the bar and the keyboard should appear. Tap to the right and you can speak. (I guess Google thought it would be evident to all of us telepaths who use Android. Do people who can't read the developers' minds actually use Android?)

Thanks I've managed to solve it. It's quite annoying that they don't make this type of thing clear.
