Text message length

When I sent text or include emojis messages fail to send. Says SMS failed. How can I extend the text message capacity? Driving me mad. Many thanks

The GSM system has a 160 character limit for SMS, you cannot change it. Secondly emojis turn your SMS into MMS

To add to this, MMS will not be sent unless mobile data is turned on. You can't send MMS via WiFi.

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone, and which carrier? Is your mobile data turned on? Are you having problems sending simple text messages (i.e., with no attached photos, no emojis, and not a group text)?
