Text Message Notifications on Lock Screen

[Android Central Question]

My wife and I both purchased Note 9's on the same day and are running the same software. When she receives a text message the lock screen lights up and shows a preview of the message. When I receive a text message my lock screen lights comes up black with a blue border around it and I get a very small pop-up on the top of the screen.

Q: How do I get my text message notification on the lock screen to look like hers?

I have played with and adjusted every setting imaginable on Settings > Lock Screen > Notifications and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get my text message notification/preview on my lock screen to look like hers.

Anyone know what I'm missing?

Try looking in you text message app settings. They give you notification options as well.

Make sure in the lock screen: notification that the view style is set to show details and the hide content is off.

Are you using the Samsung messages app?

You have edge lighting enabled for your text message app. She does not.

I also have the edge lighting active for texts, but that doesn't affect the text showing in a small popup. It only affects the edge light notification.

The show details on lock screen will allow the small popup window to show the text info for a few seconds
