Text message notifications question

Good evening, I have my messages set to get a sound notification when I get a text. that works OK,
If i am in a message conversation with a person, I get no additional sound notifications on each additional message from that person. My company phone is an Iphone, and it sounds a tone on each comment received and sent in a conversation. Its beneficial if your busy and not looking at your phone.
Am I missing a setting here? thank you

This is pretty much standard for most texting apps. Some 3rd party apps will give you a notification, even if you're in that message thread -- I believe Textra is one of them.

I sure do agree, I may have to look at another Text/sms program. thanks

The philosophy is that if you're in a chat with that person, you can see if they responded. (Being able to turn that on or off would be an improvement. Just ship with it off, but let those who want it to sound turn it on.)
