Text messages?

Can I tell my phone how long I want to save a text message? I'd like to only save messages a few months or so. Most of my Contacts have only a few text messages, but a few of my Contacts have years worth of texts (1,000 + in some cases). Even though I get a new phone every 2 - 3 years, I have transferred my texts from one phone to the next and there are a few people I text a few times a day.

I never thought about it before, but I'm sure I'm using gigs of storage.

Depends on the phone/messaging app you're using. Most stock options do have a 'Delete old messages' option, but some, like Google Messages, do not. Also, unless you have a ton of multimedia messages, chances are you're not using as much data as you think even for years worth of texts (most definitely not gigabytes).
