Anyone have a good recommendation (Except anything by Go) for a text messaging replacement app and/or an addon so that ALOT more smileys are available (and the person on the other end doesn't have to use an app to see the smileys)?

Ok. Chomp is pretty good and seems to do ALL that I want except I wouldn't mind stripping down the "Conversation" so that it doesn't use these flipping bubbles. More of a minimalist approach, if possible. Anyone know any themes that will do this?

I second this. Handcent is also very sell reviewed.

+1 for Handcent.
Beware that unless you like ads you will need to pay $4.99 to dump the adware/spam inside.
Also never, ever, ever, ever turn on their "Talk" function.

Textra is definitely my favorite. It is fast, smooth, lightweight, and has a great design.

I never turned "Talk" on when I used Handcent. I am curious as to what happens that is considered so bad?

SPAM. Also once on, turning it off requires logging into the website and editing java. They don't have a standard way to turn it off.
