Text Messaging Notification Sound

I cannot get my phone to make a notification sound when I get a text message. Also, the blue light will not flash. I cleared the cache, I reset the sound to a different sound to see if that would work. Nothing works! Help!

Yes. And in settings you can change it to what you wish.

It turns out I did have hangouts turned on - it still is not making a sound or a flashing blue light when I get a message.
Any other advice?

If you have your Bluetooth on try turning it off and testing that way.

I had this issue when I had both hangouts and the stock sms app going/on at the same time. I disabled hangouts and haven't had a problem with the stock sms app since.

Worth a shot, did you check to see that your notification sound is turned up within the overall volume settings?
