Text Messaging with Dual Sim

Hey all,

I have a Galaxy s20 (SM-G980F), and use dual sim for work/personal.

When I first used this setup last year, while texting, there would be 2 separate icons representing both sims that I could chose which sim to send the text - which was fantastic.

It seems that with an update on my phone, this option is no longer there. Going into sim manager, I can select "always ask" when selecting default sim for phone calls, but there is no such option for texts, it is just one or the other.

Even selecting a specific contact, I can set to call from one specific sim, but not for messaging.

What ends up happening is that a lot of the time, a text would be sent from the incorrect sim - making for a really frustrating experience.

Not sure what the thinking is here, but it is flat put a worser experience. I contacted Samsung, and they just sent a standard response back telling me to go into sim manager and select "always ask" under both calls and messages, when telling them I have the options for calls and not messages, I received another automated response back telling me the same thing, so I thought I would try my luck on here.

Has anyone else had this issue, and what, if anything, did you do to fix?

Thanks!

Hello, thank you for the warm welcome!

I tried to clear the cache in recovery, but it still has the same issue.

I am not sure if this was an Android update or a Samsung update, but either way, it is quite maddening!

Hi there. They totally messed up dual sim. Took me ages in the beta to figure it out.

To select a sim you need to select the message settings top right in a message. You will see at the bottom there is a coloured sim symbol. Press it and you get the option to select the other sim. It will then change to the other sim. But will keep it on the new sim card until you manually change it back to the other sim card the same way.

It is bloody awful.

In phone call to call from a certain sim card you have to press and hold the phone button in the app and it will give you option to choose a sim to make the call.

You can go through your contacts in the phone app and press and hold them one by one and choose which sim you want to use with a certain contact.

I habe solved the dual sim issues by buying a new Pixel and putting my second sim into that!!!

In the screenshot below where I put the circle is where you will see the sim card symbol. As I said I have taken the 2nd sim card out now.

Hello, yes this was my findings as well, I found where you can select it but you have to do it before you for your message as swapping sims will wipe whatever you have typed out.. it also sometimes does not remember at times whatever sim was selected.
No idea why they works change this - curious to know if it is a samsung thing or Android in general.

Seems like it's a major step back compared to pre update.

Thank you!

It is definitely a Samsung thing. And a really bad one. I complained during the beta but they had decided this was their new interface. I hope some of my long ramblings above helped you anyway.
