Text mutes call.

I got this new HTC Evo 3D today. I was playing around with it and noticed that when I am in a call and I reply to a text message that I it mutes both myself and the caller on the other side. However does not disconnect. I then have to hang up and restart my call.
I did a factory reset I updated everything on the phone and no matter what. when I use it bare bones it still does it. My phone is not rooted.

Any advice?

Update:
It turns out that if using CHOMP SMS there is a setting in there that allows it to make a noise while sending the text is checked that it will disconnect your call. Weird cuz I have used this program for all my phones never had this issue. Whats your take?

I use handcent, been using it ever since I had the hero. I don't have it set to make an audible alert, I have it set to vibrate. Works great and haven't had any issues. I have used chomp before but it was only for a day or 2 and I don't really remember any settings.
