Text Notification Sound won't change

I am trying to change the notification sound on my text messages and it stays stuck on the same tone even after I have changed my notification sound in the main settings screen. All of my other notifications have changed (email, etc) but the text messages won't. I have gone into the individual messaging app and I do not have an option to change/add sound anywhere. I have Galaxy S-10 running on Android version 12.

When I am in the messaging app I click on the notifications (which says allowed)and the next screen, under Alerts there are two bullets 1. - Allow sound and Vibration and 2 - Deliver Quietly. I have the #1 bullet selected but no where in the app will it allow me to select a notification sound. I am extremely frustrated as the notification sound that is currently running is annoying.

I have, but I have hundreds of contacts in my phone. I can change the notification sound in the individual conversations, but the overall notification tone for text messages only will not change. I use the standard android/samsung sounds for everything except my ringtone

I changed the notification sound in the settings>notifications and in settings>sounds & vibration and ALL my other notifications have switched to the new android sound but not text messages! It is very frustrating

If you go to settings >sounds and vibration >notification sound this can change it global notification sound
For message app long press it then tap info >notification >notifications category >tap incoming message sound and change

Ok, I just wanted to check. The scenario I was thinking of was that you had a few message conversations that you had already set custom notification tones for, and so far you were only getting messages in those threads. If you haven't gotten any messages that started a new thread, then the messages app wouldn't have had an opportunity yet to use the default tone (since it was relying on the custom tone assigned to each of those threads).

For message app long press it then tap info >notification >notifications category >tap incoming message sound and change View attachment 341551

I'm having a similar problem, but I am not clear from the message above what I am supposed to "long press"
