I was a little jealous that my iphone 7 would display text messages while locked and sleeping. I found that using the Textra messaging app on my S8, I could go into settings, heads up notifications, and select what I wanted displayed when the phone was sleeping.

one of the beauties of Textra and Android in general. Not only can you mimic the notification action from iMessage but you can tweak the color of the icon and it displays the contact photo too....try that on an iPhone!
