Text Read Receipts and color

Ok coming to you all again. So I'm not sure if it's my phone or his new-ish phone (Galaxy S20+), but read receipts no longer show, and now my dark blue conversations are a light blue. Is that portion his issue or mine I've searched everywhere on the read portion. Finally found it and they are on and his are on. Both restarted phones. The example below for both color and no read receipts. Suggestions?

It is showing that it's sending Text message instead of 'chat' message. Thus either their settings or your settings may not be configured correctly. OR one of you have issue connecting to chat server. Try clearing cache for the application and force stop, restart.

Did he just recently get new phone? Maybe that is the reason. He is probably not using Google Messages app and may be using Samsung messages instead. Some carriers support Samsung messages RCS, but not in all cases.

Ohhhhh I bet he's using the other messages. Yeah, he just switched from a Galaxy s8+ to a 20+. I didn't check that! He has a hard time adjusting to change so moving upward was a big ordeal for both of us as I had to transfer everything and set up things. He gets too frustrated with technology lol
