Text size in SMS is way too big and volume rocker to adjust size is a half-baked solution

Who is the retard at Samsung that decided to use the VOLUME ROCKER to determine the font size in the native texting application in the S4? I like the font size at the smallest setting but in order to keep the font setting at the smallest size I need to permanently leave the following setting on "USE VOLUME KEY TO CHANGE TEXT SIZE". If I uncheck it after I use the rocker to bring the text size down to the smallest setting the font size resets to the larger size! So every time I am using my texting application I can't change the volume on my music player, media player, phone call, NOTHING. All it does it make my text big and small. I constantly find myself backing out of the native texting program just to adjust the volume on my phone. Amazingly stupid feature. I think it must be a bug that the text size resets to the larger size after unchecking the use volume key to adjust text size feature. Because nobody could possibly be that dumb to design it this way. Anyone know of a fix? I don't want to use a third party texting app (had some bad experiences with them). I like a simple, clean application as the native one is... but would prefer to have smaller text. I'm not blind (yet). Thanks in advance.

I guess it defaults to the font size of what's chosen in the OS with the volume rocker toggle off. Try changing the devices font size if you don't mind smaller fonts elsewhere on your phone.?

Uncheck the box in the settings to not use the volume rocker?

The problem is that if you check the box you can toggle the font size down to a fairly small font. If you uncheck the box any change you made previously is undone and you are stuck with the "default" text size. In other words, the only way you can have your text permanently downsized is to keep the adjust text by volume rocker checked.

Thanks, I did that but the font size in the texting application is 100% independent from the devices font size. That's how ridiculous it is.

Sorry, I responded to you but for some reason the moderators said it needed approval.

Anyone have a solution to keep the text size permanently small in the native texting application without requiring the volume rocker option to be on?

Thank, could not figure out for the life of me how the hell that my fonts size got so huge. Then i read your post. Cracked me up. But I am the retard that could not figure that out. lol

I've had the same problem. Fixed it by reading the answers to your question. Really a poor design.

I agree this is an issue. Mine was stuck large and I didn't know how it got like that and couldn't get it smaller. Very frustrating. TY for your thread. Stupid vol button/text font changer button

Yup. It's crazy stupid... You'd think there would be a settings option for "text size" within the native messaging/texting app. There's not! But you can adjust it with your volume rocker! Yay!!!!!! If you don't want to adjust it with your volume rocker than you can't adjust it at all!!! Hahahahahahah PWND!

3rd party messaging app. Problem solved and make it look how you want :).

OH MY GOSH! I am literally in the same boat you are with this silly situation!!!!!! I just switched from my reg. S4 to the S4 Active......this was not like this on the reg S4. I need to figure out what I did differently on my other phone....bc I was actually able to uncheck that damn box and the font size stayed small. I also like the font to be small....not massive like I am blind! (no, I am not there yet either!) If you find a solution (I haven't read the whole chat/bog yet - I was just excited to find someone that has or had the same issues I am with this phone.) please let me know! I am going to play around with it again this evening - once I have some free time. IF I figure out the solution I will most definitely post it!!!!

*This is my first post ever! I JUST created myself an account! Hopefully this forum can help with a lot of tricky issues I have came across!

You were able to get the issue fixed? Does the font size stay small after un-checking the box???
