Occasionally the text in the live typing field on my messages will stay in the typing bar after slthe message is sent. If I press send again a duplicate message will send and then the text field will empty. Or I have to delete the text in the box. This doesn't happen to any one recipient or all the time. It appears very random. I have a Samsung. Has anyone else experienced this problem. Does anyone know what causes it ?

Welcome to Android Central forums.

Which Samsung do you have specifically?

Which messaging app does this happen in? If you're using Google or Samsung Messages, do you also have RCS enabled?

If you think back are you doing anything before this, commenting on a post somewhere, performing a search, any kind of typing?

You are certain that the message is received both times or does it only appear to send twice on your end?

Are you using swipe typing, voice or tap typing?

Which keyboard are you using?

Without knowing which app you're using I did a quick search and found this question being asked on Google's help boards. The OP there received no help and was advised to create an error report.

I only found the question in one other specific Android app forum and on iPhone forums. My advice would be to perform a cache wipe for the messaging app, and the keyboard app you're using. You can do this by going into the app list in your settings and locating each then choosing storage and Clear Cache for each. Alternatively you can get an app from the Play Store like Cclean and uninstall it after use if you don't want it.

Let us know what you find and we'll offer more advice.

Hi I have a galaxy a 15. I'm using the standard messaging app that comes with the phone. I havnt changed it or downloaded any other. So I'm guessing that's the same for the keyboard. R c s chats is off. I can confirm the recipient received the message twice. But that's presumably because I pressed send the second time when the text remained in the active typing field. After the second send the text cleared itself from the typing field. This is a rare occurrence but has happened several times since I've had the phone a few months ago. Any more help would be appreciated.

The randomness makes me feel like there's a correlation between this and something else happening with just before or in the background. If it's as rare as described poking down that things seems difficult. Does it happen back to back by chance? So if it happens again would you expect it to happen again I'm the same session? That would give us the ability to do some testing. Like closing all background apps before sending the next message or even just noting the background apps. What might help is just paying attention and trying to note what you were doing just before it happens. "Oh wait it just happened, I was in this app just before, I picked up the phone for the first time in an hour, I just sent a group message in another thread... Anything could be helpful.

Again with you making it sound rare I'm not sure if trying other messaging apps or keyboards would tell us anything. I would imagine that if it were a cache issue it would happen more often but you could clear the cache for your messaging app and keyboard, then wait awhile and see if it happens again. After that, on Samsung there's the Samsung Messages app or Google Messages. Either could come stock but you might try the one you're not using for a while to see what happens. Then use Gboard keyboard for awhile. I'm pretty sure all Samsungs default to the Samsung keyboard unless you had installed and used Gboard on a previous device. Then try Gboard for a while.

Sorry no definite for sure remedies just a lot of try this try that. Let us know what you find.

No it never happens back to back. It can happen just in the middle of a conversation. When the texts have all been sending fine. Then I'll go to send another one and there it just doest empty in the text field. If I press send it sends again and then empties. Seems to go back to normal for a while then.
