texting question

hi everyone,

I just got my Note 3 a few days ago, and I am wondering if there is a way to get the notification alert (custom for that contact person), while My phone screen is off, but not when I am actually texting the person actively. just silent when I am in the messaging program.

Check out the texting app Textra. When I'm replying to someone and I receive a text the notification sound doesn't come on.

I don't know about the silent while in app part...but for individual notification sounds you should be able to just tap on the person from your list in the message app...when you are in their thread press menu and it should give the choice to set individual notification sound...this is how it works in handcent...I have device messaging turned off so I dont want to turn it back on to check...give it a shot and see if it works, it should be similar.
