texting vanity codes with Droid X issues

I have a Droid X and I am trying to text a vanity code "edata". Every time i do it doesn't work like it did on my blackberry. The vanity code gets me information off of a real estate companies signs. I need help as I like using this and I can't figure it out for the life of me.
Edata is the to and a number code is the message. Then I get an automated response.
