Android Central Question

Ive got a new OnePlus 6T phone and installed the Textra messaging App to get the horizontal keyboard. (Can't do with OnePlus App). I've just discovered I have an horrendous texting bill from EE as all my messages are going as MMS. Fair play to EE they have given me a refund, but I don't know how to change to SMS as everything in the Textra settings says I'm already doing that. This is assuming its a problem with Textra.

Can anyone give my any ideas how to rectify this please? I'm a dozey old pensioner, so not too complicated please. Many Thanks. Love the OnePlus phone by the way....

Have you by any chance changed the Textra Setting for, "Convert Long SMS to MMS"? (Textra > Menu (3 dots, top right) > Settings > SMS). See screenshot below...

Personally, I use Messages, free from the Google Play Store and the Google keyboard, Gboard, also free from the Play Store.

I thought carriers didn't count MMS towards their mobile data allotment. Maybe that's only in the US?

Whilst most Pay Monthly contracts in the U.K. offer unlimited texts, (SMS), and call minutes... unless you have a bolt-on for Picture Messaging, (MMS), they can charge around .40p/53c each. This is why Whatsapp Messaging is so popular. Something that the OP might consider installing if they have a few GB of data on their contract.

Messages isn't bad since they included a dark theme, although it could be darker, but I wouldn't recommend people get used to using it as Google could cancel it at literally any moment lol.
