Textra or Google messenger?

I used Textra for the first couple of years after I switched to Android (from BlackBerry). Loved it, until they took away the option of contact pics being circles or squares. I HATE circles, lol! Wrote to the developers & they suggested ChompSMS (same devs), which still let you choose. I do like it, it's far more customizable than Textra, but the one thing I miss from it is the little contact pics inside the contact icon, of all the people in a group text. Chomp just has the number of contacts in that conversation.

If the stock app didn't open links in a stupid built in browser I'd use it. It doesn't work half the time and I always have to use the option to open in browser to use Chrome. But now I'm using Google Messenger. I'm going to give Textra a try as it's been years since I've used it.

I like Google messenger, but I've recently switched to Verizon Messages for the computer and tablet sync ability.

I like Textra but this is the issue I'm having. I've been emailing with Textra and they are stumped. Maybe one of you folks have an idea.

I'm texting my wife and want to send her a pic and hit the plus sign...

Textra opens up a window with a little gallery icon and a few pics it considers to be recent pics.

If I click on the little gallery icon it opens up "recent" - which is a nice idea - however...

I upgraded my Note 4 to a Note 7 so all 2500+ pics on my Note 7 were "taken" on August 19th as far as the app knows so Textra orders them from oldest on top to most recent on the bottom. If I want to attach a pic I took on August 17th it's all the way on the bottom.

I can click on the menu next to the word "recent" in the upper left then choose the actual Gallery app but it's kind of cumbersome vs just opening the gallery initially.

What I'd like is for Textra to default to opening my actual pic gallery on my Note 7 vs. - which retains the pics in the order I took them from newest on top to oldest on bottom even after the upgrade.

Anyone know the solution?

I've found the exact opposite to be true, stock seems to need a better connection to send mms.

I used Textra for about a year first on Note 5 and now on Note 7. I like it and have no problems.
