Textra or messenger on G4

So just curious what everyone thinks on this topic, I have been using textra for a while and like it, I supported the developer with a paid version etc, but I notice it gets a little laggy every now and then in the G4, mostly opening it when it's not in memory so I recently started trying messenger.

Obviously it's not as robust, but for general purpose texting it seems little lighter and eeks out a bit more performance at time, though I get lag with this app also.

Any thoughts on which is better from a sheer performance perspective?

Thanks!

It's not lag all the time just when Textra is launched when it's not already loaded, it slides up slightly transparent then after a second it blinks and the screen draws, where messenger slides up drawn under same scenario but with no posts showing and then a second later posts will render and fade in .

Thanks, I am going to continue for now with Textra, I made animations speed T .5 from 1s to help make it feel quicker, I think Textra is prob better overall but I can't help but think Google messenger is not quicker over all.

I use ChompSMS (made by the Textra guys) and am loving it. I always use it as my messaging app.

I personally use textra mainly for the customization. Im big on things looking the way I want them to. I also use SwiftKey on top of that. Even with both the keyboard and app being third party I don't get lag all that often. Lately have been getting a little lag from SwiftKey but it's only when I text fast and furiously so I just try to keep it slowed down lol. I've noticed that if the g4 has more than like 10 apps in the recent app drawer it causes quite a bit of lag. So maybe just try and stay on top of the recent apps?

I know this is late but I'm having trouble with Chomp-I can never tell if I'm part of a group text or not. Did/do you have this issue?

My problem with using a non-factory app is I have Car Home Ultra installed and it will respond to SMS messages saying "I'm driving" or whatever I set it to say. I know CHU doesn't work with Hangouts as an SMS app and suspect it till not work with Textra either. So from my perspective the messaging app is the only one that can be used.

I use Textra. Haven't had any issues with it at all (free version).

The stock app was a little laggy, but I just didn't like the colours and lack of customization on it.

I tried to keep using stock as long as possible. But the speed and options of Textra were too great.

I've been using textra for the past 2 months now and it's just so much better than the stock message app. Textra IMO is the Nova launcher of text message apps.

The stock messages app was unusable for me. It would lag when typing and I would finish a word before it completely showed up on the screen
