Textra weirdness between phones...

I use Textra for messages - great app.

Suddenly, for no apparent reason, my husband's (and only my husband's) texts are going to Google Messaging, an app I never use. They do not show in Textra at all, but both his and mine are both there in messaging (although I can't use messaging to response - the option is grayed out).

I am on Android 9, and I believe his runs 8.

How do we fix this? Neither of us can find any settings which would do this. Textra is set as my default, and he uses the default app on his Samsung Jstar (I think that's the model - it's the cheap Samsung from about 2 years ago).

Any ideas? It's driving me nuts!!

Are you able to uninstall Google Messages? If not, then see if you can Disable it in Settings>Apps.

You might be getting his messages via RCS/Chat, which Google Messages can handle. Textra cannot.

Who is your carrier? Are you both on the same carrier? Is he using Google messages on his phone or Textra?

EDIT: I see he is using the Samsung Messages app, which can do RCS. What phone do you have?

Google messages won't uninstall or disable.

Lg v40 running 9, and we're both Tmo. This happened several weeks after I upgraded from 8, so it's not directly related.

I think it's RCS. Textra doesn't have RCS. The stock/LG messaging app and Google messages can do RCS chat/messages with Samsung messages on the other phone.

Is there a way to change it, ie can he disable rcs? And why would it only be a problem now, after two years?? He hasn't had any recent updates. Really weird.

ETA he has no specific settings for his text messages that would indicate this could have been changed. His phone is a J3Star, so uses stock apps (he's not a power user lol)

Thanks! Yeah, I was hoping it was just going to be an easy setting we could use. Instead, it looks like Google/Samsung is holding me hostage to using their RCS clients instead of those based on an open source like Textra. Very annoying. I appreciate rcs has some advantages, but 1. Textra is really robust, easy to read, and I paid for the upgrade 2. I resent Google blackmailing me into using the stock app

Man, I feel your pain. I love Textra but with no RCS I have to use Google Messages. I text large files for work so I need the RCS.

Let's hope Textra will eventually get RCS one day but it depends on Google releasing the API.
