Texts Don't Light Up?

Hey guys, new Android user.

Having an issue with incoming texts when my screen is off. Is the screen not supposed to light up to notify you about a text message? If I'm lying in bed and working on my laptop and see the phone light up out of the corner of my eye then I can see there's a text, because the LED light is not that distinguishable like that.

The only time I can see an incoming text is if I'm already using the phone and doing something else.

Is there a setting I can change so that the phone lights up for incoming texts?

Thanks.

im wondering the same thing.. its very annoying... anyone know?

Yes you can enable sms popup to turn the screen on. Handcent and go sms pro also have this option. I checked and the stock messanger app does not have the option to turn the sceen on when a notification is recieved.

I think it always pops up. Whether the screen is on or off.
I may have been wrong. I just found a setting to restrict pop ups to only when the key guard is engaged. Sounds as if you are actively on the phone the pop up won't show. I'll have to try it but I don't mind it always showing.

I can understand the want for this, but with the display, it seems like it would be a battery drainer.

I've noticed this also, it doesn't "wake" the screen like it did with my Palm Pre. Still deciding if I'm ok with that or If i should remedy it with an app.

Hmm..I DLed it, can't seem to figure out how to find the 'only keyguard popup" setting.
