That lag.... Did Textra out the issue?

Thanks to so many suggestions on here, I switch to using Textra and I love it!!

Did anyone notice with the last update for Textra, the change log says this:

" IMPORTANT performance fix. Certain apps can sync contacts with your device, if this is not performed properly, then those apps can, in effect, spam your device with ‘contact change events’ and cause freezing / lag with apps (like Textra) that listen for these change events. Textra now recognizes this is occurring and manages these events more effectively so as to not impact the user."

Started making me think, is it possible that VZW messed around with the default SMS app and screwed something up with this? There have been a lot of people complaining about lag while texting (of course, that is using the keyboard a lot).

So, any of you with horrible lag, have you disabled the standard SMS Messaging app and tried out Textra? I'm probably all wet on this one, but thought I would share.

I just switched to textra yesterday and love it! It's just made my international G4 even better! Textra seems to be the Nova launcher of text apps.

I love Textra. I wasn't sure about a year ago after the first Material Design update but now it's just better and better.

Created by the same people that made biteSMS for jailbroken iPhone (which I loved) and one of the first things I download when getting a new Android.

Gotta deal with one advertising text log at top of list but it really isn't especially intrusive. Have only accidentally clicked on it once.

I switched to Textra after Messenger started sending text to the wrong people after an update. Haven't looked back. Love it.

Except when it delays the ad showing, and you go to press on the top SMS recipient and click the ad as it popped up unexcpectedly. Happened in Chomp too... very, very annoying. Just ran out of the free trial of no ads with Textra and sure enough, first time the ad decided to pop up as I'm pressing on a recipient and bam, I'm looking at an ad loading.

But I'm also too cheap to pay for an SMS app, or any app really.

I'm surprised how many people don't seem to know about the Rewards app from Google. Answer surveys and Google gives you Play Store credit. I don't know how much stuff Google has bought me.

I hate to say it, but I think that's intentional. My phone doesn't lag anywhere else except displaying that ad. The delay causes you to click on the ad, I've done it quite a few times myself.

I made about $100 in credits since 2013.

I was using Textra for awhile and tonight switched back to the LG messenger app and it still seems to be running very smooth.

AT&T variant with a fresh reset after the 46mb update.

24+ hours later and its running pretty much how I expected it to when I bought it and I'm strongly considering keeping it now. Just waiting for Android M now to hopefully improve performance even more.

For some reason, I don't really expect M to help out with anything that isn't merely superficial. I expect worse battery life and similar performance (at best). Will def be waiting to hear plenty of reviews of M before even considering making the switch.

Well, thanks for the information. For the past two years I've been with iOS and prior to that when I was with Android, I hated the phones and OS issues.

Textra saved my phone! It runs much smoother overall but you can really tell when using the keyboard.
