The cost of the Pixel/Pixel XL

What is much more? Just cramming in a bunch of disjointed features doesn't make them justify the price. Have owned every Samsung flagship and can say if Samsung, iPhones are justified by the price, Pixel's are justified as well. Sure it may not fit your needs that's why there are options at every price point.

Lot of folks just don't get how important software and overall experience is, just fall for marketing and gimmicks. There is a market for everything.

I was going to disagree until your last point.

I criticized the price but after watching the reviews THE SOFTWARE makes up for it.

I partially disagree with you. There are tangible metrics for assessing a handset that can be broken down and quantified. At the same time, there are intangible qualities that can only be assigned value in a subjective manner. As such it is difficult to create a standard measure for these qualities.
Fair enough. To be honest, I guess I should have phrased my statement better, but I was wrapping up my lunch break at work. When I hurry my posts, I tend to not quite articulate myself as much as I would like.

To clarify, I can agree with what you said. I guess it's kind of a 70% of what I posted and a 30% what you said. Meaning that value can be mostly subjective, depending on how one's point of view is on the object to be evaluated.

True, there are things that can be measured. Hardware, performance of said hardware, etc. And then there is the perspective of individual reaction to the whole package.

Understood, and I agree.

Have you used a Pixel? And no, a demo unit does not count...
So when you called the s7 laggy, buggy, and bloated, was that based on the s7 that you owned? Or not?

Or what about when you were talking about how great the pixel is before you got it?

Or what about how 'bloatware' gimmicks like fps gestures. Why was it that it 'just works' only when Google does it?

It is pretty clear that certain people here are drunk on the kool aid. And that's fine. The pixel is a great phone too. But you can't deny that there is enough kool aid to go around for everyone. :p

Yes I had an S7 for a week before I returned it.. Next question....

And....... I don't go into the Samsung forums and spread hate and insults around just becuase I did not like the phone.. See the difference????????????????????????????

I had the phone, I didn't like it, I returned it and I moved on.. No drama, no stalking the Samsung forum, no harassing Samsung users in their sub forum who like the phone and want to discuss it.. Again, see the difference??????????????????????????????????

The comment about people and kool aid is offensive though.. I am an educated adult who can make decisions all on my own.. Don't think I've drank any kool aid in 40+ years..........

Why not return the Pixel and go back to S7 edge or Axon. Speak with your wallet if you have so much problem with the pricing and don't see the value it provides.

I knew I'd get someone who's upset about spending that much fumed up. I am always using my S7 edge. Pixel will be going back end of week. To bad because I wanted to love this phone. Happy now?

If it's not for you then it's not for you... At least you gave it a shot with actual hands on..

If one phone appealed to every person then the rest of the manufacturers would be out of business.. Competition is a good thing...

The cost of the pixel wouldn't deter me if I needed a new phone I'd most likely get one.

Yeah, the difference is that you don't like it when people express views that differ to your own.

This forum is for anyone who wants to discuss the pixel. This thread is about the price of the pixel and what it offers. But you don't want people to say anything but good things about the pixel, and anyone who expresses different views, whether they have the pixel or not, are antagonised. You attack me because I don't have the pixel, and you agreed with someone else disparaging someone for saying he doesn't like the pixel after using it. The only reasonable conclusion is as I've said, you don't want anybody criticising the pixel.

In regards to my comment, it is pretty much a fact that you can't even refute. The whole point of the pixel is Google branding. That's by far the main difference between the nexus and the pixel, and is the reason it is made by HTC and not huawei. It is also the reason for the pricing premium (and it isn't some fanciful coincidence that the pricing is the same -as in identical- to the iPhone)

The part which you can try to deny is how the branding has influenced the fervency of the fans on AC, I say the pixel is a success and it does influence it, you argue that Google was misguided in giving you kool aid and that isn't the driving force. Fine, we can agree to disagree.

Antagonized? Me? Nope, sorry to disappoint you. I think many of the posts made here are comic relief... I mean c'mon now... Adults throwing tantrums over a phone they don't even have? You have to admit that's pretty darn funny...

Please show me where I attacked you? You can't so please just stop.. What you appear to do often based on your past comments is a common redirection to cover the fact that you are slamming a device that you do not even own.... That is indeed a fact....

I will take this sound advise and let you post away... Have a nice day! :D

Exactly. Too many people drinking the pixel kool aid. I mean, this is exactly what Google was going for, but it is fascinating to me how successful it is, at least on this site.
Comments like these bother me.. So because we don't share your opinion we're drinking the "Kool aid".. So I guess we can say you're drinking the Kool aid of the Samsung train right?

Luckily I don't believe in that.. I believe in choosing what you think works best for you... Not what others say is the best. I've tried every manufacturer and still buy from various ones so I can try all the offers.. And choose from my own opinion.

I bought a droid turbo and DT2, galaxy Nexus, HTC my touch, actually bought the galaxy s epic 4g on launch day...etc etc. My wife has had the Motorola photon 4g, galaxy s3, 5, and 6.

I don't know why anybody would start arguing price when so many people are purchasing flag ship phones. I bought a pixel xl for my wife and myself. It wasn't a big deal

On the topic of pricing - I was just on the Verizon site - they have 24 month payments - 2 year contracts - or full price.
I selected the contract - 199 for the phone - continued on to the cart and realized they had upped the monthly line fee from 20 to 40 dollars - and extra 480 over the 2 years - pretty much erases any phone savings by getting the contract price.

Several exchanges with the CHAT person got me know where.

The point of this post, using Verizon as an example, but including all other vendors - Be Careful - Be VERY Careful - when buying anything from anybody at any time. I know marketing and the old switcheroo have been around for years, seems to me it is more prevalent today than ever.

End of old man pricing rant - I feel much better now - :D

You must have missed my earlier post.

Pretty sure that new customers can do it in stores even though not publicly advertised. If you are on a current plan, you would have to pay$20/ mo more for 24 months or$480... For a$450 savings.

It makes more sense for legacy plans where the line access charge doesn't change when on or off contract

But this is also a known thing.... You are getting the lower prices since the subsidy has been removed from the line access charge ever since true share everything plans circa 2012. You can do two year subsidized contract but you would be paying $15-25 more depending on plan and data tier(for share everything and more everything). Verizon plan has a fixed$20 increase in line access charge when going on contract
