On degradation, I was referring to the microSD functionality.
I’ll start by asserting that internal storage is objectively better than external storage in every practical way. It’s faster, more secure, more stable, involves fewer design compromises, etc.
The first adverse effect of the slot is less internal storage. Now, if someone wants to offer a 128GB or 256GB with a microSD slot – cool, to your point, I could simply not use the slot – however two of those above referenced drawbacks still exist, even without me using it. But so far, 64 and a slot seems to be put into the market instead of 128 GB or more.
The second is related to the nature of using inferior storage. The anecdotal argument thrown out, without fail, in this conversation can be dismissed outright because it ignores the fact that so many other people are having issues and it also fails to acknowledge the objective inferiority of that type of storage. Every single time that we in the forums must try to help someone recover stuff from an SD card because they failed to properly back up their photos and documents, etc and then the card failed – every single time – it is a complete and utter waste of our time because it is a 100% preventable frustration. If the inferior storage didn’t exist and thus didn’t fail, we wouldn’t be having to troubleshoot something that’s immensely difficult to navigate due to the absolute hackery that OEMs must do to get SD card support to resemble the way that they choose to want it to interface with their software.
I think that’s sufficient to preface my position, so I’ll check out there.
