The Fingerprint experience gets much better with a case

I don't know how FPS works without a case since I use a case, but it works great in my case. I prefer FPS because I can unlock the phone right from the AOD, the biometric, pattern, and pin require first long pressing the home button. FPS, just touch FPS and boom phone unlocked.

To me case or no case, it's a non issue.

Same here (at least not a big issue). The way I hold my phone, my finger naturally gravitates to where the fps is. Could be due to habit cause I always used the HR sensor on the S7e which is in the same location.

I still think the location of the FPS sensor is suboptimal (and I think we can all agree on that), but yes I agree it's not nearly as bad of an issue as it was made out to be. I've got a Spigen Liquid Crystal clear case, and the FPS is very easy to access. Actually, I usually use the iris scanner first, and generally resort to the FPS when I'm in bright daylight, so I suppose it doesn't matter that much.

The one unintended "feature" here is that it's difficult to unlock my phone when it's on a car mount in my car. Which is good, because that discourages me from being irresponsible on the road (and hopefully others as well).

I have a big blingy Casematecmi_dream_2_brilliance_rose_gold_cm035526_2.png....the back where the fingerprint scanner is pretty steep. It can only accommodate the tip of my index, I have short nails and thin fingers. It is soo accurate it puts my LG20 (which is very good) and Note 7 FPS's to shame. No issues here. I actually thought I would have to get another case. I only use the FPS and a passcode (seldom used).

It's most natural for me to hold the phone in my left hand with my thumb on the volume rocker and all four fingers on the right edge, index finger on the power button. But with that grip, the fps is out of reach.

I'm getting used to shifting the phone to put my thumb on the Bixby button, index finger on the fps, middle finger on the power button, and other two fingers on the right edge. It's still slightly awkward, though.

I don't know how everyone here commenting on how wonderful it is with a s8+ are gripping your phone, but you must have gigantor hands :-).

Seriously, coming from a 6p to the s8 (no +) I am so glad I went with the smaller s8. The finger print location is just where my finger lands when gripping the phone. I'd be a-strechin' with the s8+. And I don't have tiny Trump hands, I wear large sized gloves!

Overall FPS is pretty good. I had to save 2 scans of my finger and I still have no-hits and must reposition the finger about 10% of the time. Still better than the 2-step process for pressing the power (or invisi-home button), sliding up, and waiting for face or iris scan to do its thing (75%-ish success rate on those).

Trump's hands actually aren't small. They're probably bigger than yours. It's just that they aren't as big as one would expect for someone his height and stature.

The funny part is the reviews are all still slamming the FPS location. I wonder how many of the reviewers actually used the phone and how many are just regurgitating somebody else's review. Based on what I've read, it seems the latter. I have FPS, iris, and password enabled and don't have any problems.

I was worried about the car Mount also. I am using trusted device option with my Bluetooth headset and so far that solved the issue. It appears the trusted device is working a lot better now then it did with the note 5 which was sporadic.

I agree. With a case, the FPS is much easier to find with your finger. It took a day to get accustomed to it and I love the fact you can unlock and go straight to the home screen from one touch 👍

Pffft. Yeah, I read an article with a sensationalized title and big lead up in the opening paragraphs. Something to the effect that there was a flaw with the camera of the S8+, and as you drilled down further and read the rest, all they were referring to is that you can get fingerprints on the camera lens due to the position of the fingerprint sensor! After having the phone in my possession, I'm sure not noticing any more of that than any other phone I've had...

By the way, I have 2 fingerprints registered. One being my index and the other being my middle finger. (I'm right handed) The way I hold my phone, my middle finger rests on the right edge of the phone, next to the scanner. All I have to do is slide my middle finger into the finger print scanner and it lands right on it. Give it a try and let me know ☺ (the case makes this method works very nicely)

I have an evutec ballistic nylon case that I love. Only problem is the cutout for the fps and camera is really deep and it's kind of hard to fit my finger in there to accurately hit the fps. I'm getting better at it. Just wish they'd have made it a millimeter wider. The case is sweet though

Agreed! Honestly coming from a GS6 to the S8, the S8 feels pretty big and more difficult to use one handed, but I can't imagine using an S8+. I'm really glad I got the S8 instead of the +.

If your car has Bluetooth, Just use Smartlock to unlock your phone automatically when it's paired with the car.

I have average sized hands and fps is easily accessible. Case or no, just practice putting your finger on it. Saying this in the nicest possible way, if the fps location creates that much butt hurt, return it and get the latest from LG. When a manufacturer has a design change, adapt or pass on the product. I totally agree that the fps is in a bad location. From what I have read, Samsung wanted to put it on the display itself but it couldn't be changed and not delay the GS8 launch. Putting it below the camera would have meant a smaller battery. End of rant.

I apologize in advance if anyone was offended by my remarks but maybe I am old school and believe in being self-sufficient solving problems and adapting to change. As the song goes, you can't always get what you want but you get what you need. The GS8 could have included more innovative changes but overall, it's not a bad device.
