I took off my screen protector because the brand I'm using, Supeeshieldz doesn't seem to hold up well on using two of them. The first one developed a hairline crack from low impact and after a couple of weeks the edges and corners started to chip. Second started chipping at the corners so I ripped it off. Low and behold I started noticing fine scratches but they seemed to be on the Oleophobic coating because I could buff them and they would reappear after touch the screen. As of this morning I noticed a small scratch on the screen that may have happened after a one foot drop off the couch. Don't recall it hitting anything abrasive but I have a scratch that you can see and feel. Put another protector on it but you can still see it. I have a Droid Maxx that never had a protector on it that sustained countless drops over the years and in my pocket with keys over a 2 year + period and I would have to look hard to find blemishes on the screen. I will never go without a protector again until they make this stuff more resilient.
