The Got My Nexus7, but I'm not wowed as I thought I'd be thread

Re: The Got My Nexus7, but I'm not wowed as I thought I'd be thre

I think I was an impulse buyer after Google IO. Bought 2 of these puppies and now on arrival I realize the screen is so tiny I'd rather call it a reader than a tablet.

Also, I haven't been impressed with the display.

Also, I have remorse now that I have the device and its questionable that I may ever be able to mirror instead of lugging the laptop around to pop netflix to a big screen.

Also, the lack of landscape when I want it is really irritating.

smh.

Anyone else have some second thoughts after its somewhat too late?

No remorse here. I have had a Xoom for awhile, and I do love it. However, It wasn't quite the laptop replacement that I wanted it to be. Android tablets as they currently stand need to be smaller and more portable than laptops, since they don't fit that use case very well. I do feel that an Android tablet would make an awesome E-reader. This is the primary reason I got the Nexus 7, I wanted a tablet that would make a good E-reader (not an E-reader pretending to be a tablet). The Nexus 7 hits what I wanted perfectly.

I thought I read on the nexus 7 website last week, that they were going to include headphones. Did they say why they decided to remove them? (not that it bothers me, I bought some spare headphones specifically for the tablet)

I think that was a mistake. They listed it as in the box but no one, even those who got the white ones, had them.

I haven't looked but guessing the Transformer is quite a bit more expensive and for me, the N7 is just what I wanted *especially* for the price. I wasn't even considering a tablet until this one came along because I could buy it and not feel the pain in my wallet.

Yeah, it's about $300 more. But Asus is making one heck of a tablet there.

Re: The Got My Nexus7, but I'm not wowed as I thought I'd be thre

Just to be clear, I like the device and I'm certainly not bashing it.

This thread was intended for new owners who might now have some buyers remorse and wanted to voice that opinion. It was not intended for flaming from owners who may see this as the Android Tab Holy Grail..which in fact it may very well be. Not the tab to end it all, but the tab to actually start making Android tabs relevant to the average consumer. This is a very important device.

With that said I certainly had inflated expectations and unless there are the right "docking" or "productivity" accessories released, I wont ever be able to practically use this outside of e-reading and youtube while I walk around. I guess I kind of new this at checkout which is why I had the M$ Surface Pro on my radar, but I was just soooooo hype over JB. Needed a JB device in my hands ASAP.

But basically as some other OP mentioned in this sub-forum...hmmmmmm should have waited to see what else this sparks on the market.

I had never played with a 7 inch tablet before but I did have a Touchpad and my father has an iPad and I didn't realize how much smaller it would be. It might have something to do with 4:3 vs 16:9 aspect ratio but I have gotten used to it. The one flaw I can find is I find it hard to hit the power and volume buttons. And I really hope they come out with a dock that allows video out. Other then that I really like the device.

I had the original Xoom, gave it away as a gift. Only had the TouchPad to hold me over w/ CM9. Mentally I wasn't prepared for how much smaller the GN7 is, I even wondered if they sent me a regular GN by mistake when I seen the shipping box. I really do like it quite a bit. I've changed my normal app load out too, content only.

I think the biggest disappointment for me was the screen in the Nexus 7. I had read that it was 216 dpi which isn't that far from iPads 260 something so I figured it would look similar to my iPad. Boy was I wrong. Text on the nexus 7 particularly in browser is still noticeably pixelated.

You probably just notice it cause you hold it closer due to form factor.

I am wowed. Really wowed. I've had a lot of tablets and this is my absolute favorite. For me it, it's perfect in every way. I modded up splashcreen HD and I'm getting a good 60fps connection to my PC, which let's me play skyrim smoothly almost like it's actually running on my N7. Having smooth access to my desktop wherever I go is amazing. Gonna set up a 360 controller tomorrow so it'll be like a potable gaming PC.

The display is my only disappointment too. I am pretty sure the issue isn't the lack of DPI though. Seems to be something wrong with the gamma setting or something. Small text on white backgrounds seem to look somewhat fuzzy because of it I think. Hoping it's a software issue that Google/ASUS can fix quickly.

Honestly it almost looks like the resolution is slightly off.

Its not the most revolutionary device but I sure like using it on the couch more than my Gnex. Its a solid reader, web browser, and gamer with the Tegra 3. Given the price you can't expect too much. For what it is the Nexus 7 is a wonderful device.

Re: The Got My Nexus7, but I'm not wowed as I thought I'd be thre

I keep seeing that the people in the forums (which probably makes up .05% of the buyers) are having resolution issues. Are we being over critical or is there really an issue? If there is, maybe, there is a fix for this.

Yeah I think it's a text rendering problem too, but I'm not so sure about it being fixed quickly though. Small text on Nexus 7 is more blurry than my 12 inch 1280x800 HP elitebook (double the size with same resolution) with Microsoft ClearText viewed from the same distance. I think it's a text rendering problem on Android, which does a really lousy job of rendering non-Roboto text.
