The "Help! How do I..." Thread

I thought that is what I would be able to do, like I could on my droid 2, but when I have it plugged in and set to disk drive, It comes up as A CD drive and when I exolore, I can only see two folder "drv" and "img" and then the TL bootstrap.exe and then another bbotstrap manifest. Is this what everyone else is experiencing?

Is there a way to view the files on my card like a external hard drive?

if you go to "connect to computer" it gives you options of what to do when you plug it in...or when you plug it in, you should see in the drop down menu the connection, press it and the options also come up

Help, how do I mass delete emails within a label? I'd like to mass delete all my slams and trash.

Probably a precaution. It's also why I use the Gmail app instead of the mail app. If I delete an email it goes to the trash folder.

Like mentioned above.. you can not empty the trash from your phone. The messages are stored in the trash for 30 days and then become deleted as necessary. Needs to be done from the computer.

Edit: let me clear that up... you can not empty the trash from the gmail app, you must be logged into your gmail account from your computer or phones browser.

I'm not sure you can do it without either an app or computer. Easiest way... Just download Astro File Manager from the Market. You can then look on your sd card. It probably went to the download folder. Press and hold, click edit, then delete.

Sent from my Thunderbolt using Tapatalk.

Not sure if we covered this yet but......in Browser under Menu> More> Downloads.....i found PDFs from my email in there. Must download thru internet and store there......anyway....thats how i deleted.

Assign ringtones to contacts?

I read the Thunderbolt manual and I can't figure out how to assign a ringtone to a contact. Do I need to have songs on my phone to do so, because the only directions about ringtones with respect to contacts talk about getting them from songs on your device. (Or, is songs the same as downloading ringtones from other sources like Crackberry, for example?)

Can I use the system ringtones for a contact?

Also, can I use the same ringtones that I had on my BlackBerry Tour for this phone or do I need to go out and find new ones? Thanks.

I also would like to know about my gmail account in both the gmail app and the mail app. I want to keep gmail out of the stock mail box and only in the gmail app bit I am afraid to delete the gmail account from the stock mailbox. Will that erase all my gmail's emails? (Does that make sense?)

No removing the account will not delete the emails. They will still be synced to Google's server. Even if you did manually delete them one by one they will remain in the trash for up to 30 days and can always be moved back to the inbox. The only way to completely delete the emails right away is to log into your Gmail account at gmail.com.

Choose a Contact.. select Ringtone.. select Music.. Choose System Ringtone for sounds/songs preloaded on the phone or choose Music for sounds/songs that you added to the phone. Yes.. if you had songs stored on your BB, they should play on your Android. Copy and paste them in the ringtone folder on your SD Card. Yes.. you can use system ringtones for contacts. Yes.. you can download songs from other sources, place them in your ringtone folder.

Email Push Question

What is the process to have the phone notify of an incoming email...typically i have to go to the mail screen and hit refresh -- from that point I see emails that were sent hours ago. I'm new to the Android from the BB Storm and although I like the versatility of the TB, I miss getting notified immediately when a new email hit the gmail or yahoo inbox. Any help with this would be appreciated -- keep in mind I am a complete noooooob when it comes to Android...
Thanks.

Menu>Settings>Accounts and Sync...... Turn on Background data and auto sync... Then select your gmail account and put a check mark for sync gmail.

Thanks for this bit of info. I deleted my gmail account from the stock mail app and I am still able to use gmail from the gmail app, just like I want to. :)

Ok, I did not.see those options before I started downloading ringtones from Zedge, but now I see them. They were there before, weren't they? Ahh..I knew it was a stupid question, but thanks for answering it. Good to know that I can copy BB tones.

actually go to the settings and check about phone then battery it will show you percentages of each item using batteries
There is no setting for this. You have to download an app that places the percentage in the status bar. Go to the market and search for battery and you'll see plenty to choose from.
