The HTC One has kind of saved the mobile market...

Average consumers don't read the specs.

My father, the least tech savvy person I know, can tell me about his camera and how many megapixels it has. People read the specs and make judgments based on what they know.

They can't really focus on the camera since except for low light it doesn't compare favorably to other flagships. HTC would be wise to bump the mp on the One + or whatever the next iterations is. If they can increase the detail of the photos and keep the low light performance they would have a winner.

What have you been reading? Every direct comparison involving the Ones camera has it faring well against Samsung and others. It may not beat them, but it is on equal footing.

Even still, number of megapixels isn't the single most important camera spec.

If people only know to compare a number, a judgement based on that number is flawed.

You'll have to provide some links for that. Every review has the one behind the S4 and the iPhone in daytime shots. I own both and it's not even close. The one gets its due indoors but its it. The low mp count just handicaps the amount of detail that can be captured. I sure they will get it right next time.

Oh I agree. I'm just stating that because most people aren't aware of that, seeing that it's a 4MP camera will probably turn people off without them giving it a chance.

Thus, marketing a camera that's so perfectly suited for people using it for social media with great features like Zoe should be a priority.

I disagree. They should be focusing on the design and the camera. BoomSound, while very nice, won't speak to a lot of people given that most just use headphones.

People read the specs and see a 4MP camera, regardless of what they name it. They need to show how good the camera can be, starting with Zoe.

Which part of the design stands out the most from other smartphones?

...the front-facing, Boom Sound speakers.
:)

I guess time will tell if marketing the speakers is a good idea. I'm going with a resounding "No".

Explain what a Zoe is.

Last week at a brewery outing with a bunch of friends, one guy whipped out his new HTC One to take a photo of the group. He said "this will take 3 seconds". I said, "Nice- You're taking a Zoe!"

Then other people asked, "What's a Zoe?"

He couldn't give a straight answer. I couldn't really either.

It takes 0.6 seconds of HD video before you hit the shutter, then 3 seconds after that. You break it down into stills if you'd like. It's supposed to simulate a moving picture. It's actually pretty cool.

Ppl should do more research on the Ones camera and it's technology. It has the fastest shutter speed of any camera. And since it's a 4 ULTRAPIXEL camera ppl think it's megapixels for some reason. I has the best details of any camera but when you get to a long distance any camera on a phone is limited.

To be fair, most reviews say the S4's camera beats the One's in normal light, though by a small margin.

Which is what I said. The One compares favorably, even if it doesn't beat the S4.

I'm not providing anything for you. You know how to work google. There were comparisons done on AC, cnet, and other websites that showed the One could keep up with the S4 and iPhone in everything except extreme zoom situations. The One takes great pictures in a majority of situations, where the S4 does not. The One is not 'handicapped'.

But really, how is a regular consumer supposed to get excited about that?

And how is a Zoe supposed to compete with a Samsung commercial where they show the camera removing a streaker at graduation?

Sales figures will make it a fact. Considering the price points, it'll have a hard time even competing with the S3 or 4S. Doesn't mean it's a worse phone. It just means they aren't on that level yet.

Sales figures have no bearing on whether one phone is better than another.

As if there's a bigger market for hand waving...

Silly response. Samsung doesn't hunger for good marketing like the HTC does. Not even close.

This isn't even about Samsung though, it's about HTC and their ability to move more units through marketing. They have a great phone on their hands. I'd like to see them carry that over to all around success.

Sales figures have little to do with them being on the same level. The qualities of the phone do. Considering those, the One is certainly on the same level as its competitors.
