The iPhone SE 2020 basically just killed the Pixel 4a and other value flagships...

Not nitpicking at all. Just stating the obvious...if you have a device with a defunct battery it's useless regardless of support longevity, unless you make the effort to replace it and I don't know many that do. Maybe I hang around with the wrong with the wrong people.
2 things hurt that phone , battery is embarrassing tiny , those bezel and small screen, everthing else is really really good on it

It's $50 for a battery replacement at Apple. Swapping a battery is probably cheaper than... buying a new phone to get active support again.

Not disputing price or logic. Most people I know will not buy a new device after the battery is is defunct.

Maybe you do, maybe you dont.
The option is their either way and people do take advantage of it.

I might add my wife, who is your average user, has an iPhone 8 who's battery is still going strong.
That's almost 3 full years of service and the battery doesn't need replacing.

I would never buy it due to the bezels alone. Fugly!
I cant personally go back to bezels that size , and small screen, sometimes I want kick myself for getting the 11pro and not the bigger one as that still on small side to me .

Right, but I was addressing 5 to 6 years.

I may actually get the smaller 12 (5.4") when it comes out, depending on price. I like smaller, easily pocketable devices, but that's just me. No movie watching or anything.

I thought the same also , I think the xr was perfect size . If they don't use the 90 or 120hz ill skip the 12 and wait for 13.

The 60hz on the S20U is bad, how does the Note 10+ compare to it?
The note 10+ is fast , but I noticed 60hz is not as smooth as 90 or 120 . So like I mentioned earlier my phones going forward will have to have 90hz minimum at the expense of battery , when i get my note 20 in few weeks I'm accepting it wont get 10 to 12 hours SOT like my note 10+ did .

Still not 5-6 years other than the Blackberry users who won't move on from physical keyboards or an ancient EOL OS.
So Apple shouldn't support devices for this long? I don't see how it's a negative.

Blackberry users in this day and age need therapy.

Anecdotally, I already know (older) folks that have done four years on the same phone.

And 5-6 doesn't need necessarily mean same owner.
