the LTE TAB has effectively killed the xoom

I seriously doubt that a great many people on thees boards actually wait out a two year contract on either their phones or tablets. My last three phones have been an HTC Tilt2, a Samsung Captivate, and now a Motorola Atrix, and I'm fairly certain that's been within the last two years alone.

We should start up a poll to see how many people have actually completed a two year contract with a single phone.

That would be a interesting poll. The last year and a half, I've had a nexus one, iPhone 4 , my touch 4g, nexus s and, now back to a iPhone 4 on Verizon.

So I have been considering taking the hit and replacing my Xoom with a Tab with LTE.

Part of that decision was to try and get a rough idea of why my Xoom was worth on the used/trade market.

Gazelle was one of the first places I looked. I realize that they tend to be at the lower end, but they have been good in the past for ballpark purpose.

So this morning the price they will pay for a 3g Xoom is $118

That is it and is actually lower than the wifi only Xoom.

So my Xoom becomes a bigger albatross....

Motorola for so totally screwing your customers

I get what you're saying, but you have to understand a couple of things about the SGT 10.1. And this isn't coming from a "fanboy", but just take a look at some things.

Okay, the SGT 10.1 is lighter and that's a good thing, the screen is brighter or has a slightly higher resolution than the Xoom, that's great too. But outside of that what is the difference? The Xoom has great speakers, as does SGT 10.1. Both Motorola and Samsung take forever to update any of there systems, which is debatable. (Just what I've seen in the recent past.)

I could see if you paid the original full price for the Xoom, you'd be pissed about the SGT 10.1 automatically coming with LTE, but within a month's time the VZW will have LTE installed. And like someone else said in this thread. That SD Card slot is KEY. Do you know how powerful it is to go from 32GB to 64GB, within the snap of a finger?

Not to mention the money and "time" you'll be saving by having the Xoom. I love having gadgets myself, but that proprietary technology they have for charging, PC connection and HDMI is annoying to me. I know it comes down the personal preference, but just because the SGT 10.1 is coming out with LTE installed Day 1, does not mean Motorola is screwing their customers, they're just falling prey to the competition. I think everyone knows the Xoom was slightly rushed, it's essentially the G1 of the tablet world; thus the pricing and the software.

If you really wanna sell, then sell where you can get profit (see several posts in this thread), but not because of another piece of tech that has the same thing and that isn't as fast. If that's the case imagine how Apple customers feel, knowing that in less than 12 months their piece of tech will be outdated? That sucks more, doesn't it? Not to mention, but between androidcentral and xda, anything you see on SGT 10.1, you'll see on the Xoom soon enough.

I took the plunge and switched from the Xoom to the SGT 10.1 last week. I was able to get VZW to make a swap and I couldn't be happier.

you are correct, there are not that many differences between the two that I would justify paying for both but the SGT 10.1 does have some benefits. i have found a bunch of subtle tweaks that Samsung made, extra options on the power button, web sites come up as desktop versions and not mobile.

The Xoom power cord is not exactly generic (how many other devices use that connector? it also felt cheap and breakable) i'll still end up spending the same money on accessories.

I lasted 6 months on 32gb so I no longer worry about the SD card.... I can use the USB host with a thumb drive if necessary, I just rotate the video files as I watch them and sync music with Music Beta.

From what people are saying about touchwiz, it seems to make some more performance tweaks with noticeable speed differences. I think it is better to let the manufacturer add optional tweaks to smooth out rough edges (when I bought the Xoom, I thought straight-up honeycomb was the only way to go).

I also could not trust moto would upgrade my unit in September (it was pushed from end of Q2 til Summer, and now to the fall) so to me, it was not 'just' another month if we don't have actual date in print.
