The New Galaxy Note 8" $400!!

The Note 8 seemed interesting when I first heard about it, but as soon as I saw pictures, and then in-store..I was turned away by its "just a bitter phone" look. I have a Galaxy S3 and it literally looks like someone scaled it (or the Note 2) up in Photoshop. I ended up getting a Note 10.1 as I don't mind the size.

I own the Note 2, and 10.1, and I agree they are the ultimate companion devices. With S-sync you can take notes on the phone while on the go, and they automatically sync with the 10.1, when I'm back on wifi. The original Note did not do this, but Samsung has since improved this functionality.

I too wanted the Note 8, but since the 10.1 and Note 2, are vastly different, yet similar, they make the perfect pair in my opinion.

Glad to hear that. I'd been going back and forth about the Note 8 and finally decided the 10.1 would be a better fit with my Note 2. I have a PlayBook, which is roughly the same size, and I never use it anymore (although that's in large part because it sucks in terms of available apps, among other things). The much bigger size difference between the Note 2 and 10.1 makes them seem like more natural companions.

I was also wondering whether I should wait and see if Samsung is going to release a successor to the 10.1. But since it now looks like all they are going to do in the larger size tablet this year is a new Tab and a Nexus, I didn't want to wait any longer.

Yeah, I was like you, I didn't really care for the design looking like a bigger version of my GS lll. I still think it's a bad design also. Other people on the GN 8 Forum were complaining about hitting the back capacatative button and sometimes the big Home hard button when using it. This never happens on the GN 10.1, because the buttons are on Screen. There is a fix though of just turning the tablet upside down, so not a big inconvenience. I use my 10.1 every night and the GN 8 just when out and about.

As much as I like my Note 2 I wish it was a exact scaled down copy of my Note 10.1 with two front facing speakers and no clumsey mechanical button in the center. If the GN8 was just that with phone capability I would already have purchaced one, even for $400.

S-sync is the automatic update of your S-Notes that occur when you have both the tablet and the phone associated with your Samsung account.

It is very handy. When you take a handwritten note on one device, it will appear on the other.

I take notes in a meeting using my 10.1, but when I'm at lunch and want to review those notes with a colleague, I have them available on my Note 2.

I can then edit the note, and S-sync will reflect those changes when I get back to my office on the 10.1.

S-sync is not something you install. I believe it's just part of the backup associated with your Samsung account.
