The Nexus 6 Android 5.1 Lollipop Thread

https://www.geeky-gadgets.com/sprint-nexus-6-will-get-android-5-1-update-today-11-03-2015/

Looks like Google had no more control of there nexus services carriers will decide when we get the update. ridiculous in my opinion.

Only one SKU for all models. So if one phone is getting it then all the phone are getting it. Just will be a staged roll out. Just so happens to be the day before Verizon launches the phone and it's too have a day one update to 5.1.

Sounds like a person that never worked in IT before. 5.0.2 never officially rolled out to the Nexus 6 because it was only a few weeks old and this is a brand new piece of hardware relatively speaking. these things take a little time if you want something that is stable. if you don't want stable, root your device and load the first one that drops from a Dev.

I always look forward to updates... but at the same time it amazes me how restless people get when an update is announced... Unless you are having a major issue with your device that a particular update is meant to fix I don't understand the "I NEED IT NOW" mentality of most... My Nexus 6 works great... I actually decided not to root this one and it works just like I want it to work.. Any improvement should be minimal at best.. Heck 99.9% of the time when they roll out a new .1, .2 or whatever update I can't even really tell any difference...

When it hits it hits... Not even going to worry about side loading when the factory image is out... Phone works great so no rush..

I have Sprint, and I got this phone in November. I've been awaiting a fix for my SMS issues since then.

Please don't get me wrong, I'm definitely not trying to flame here. I just found it strange that other updates took so long to get to the Nexus 6 compared to the other current Nexus devices is all. I love my device, and Android 5.0. I just think an announcement and roll out go better together than spaced apart :)

Are people really that impatient that not having something the day it's announced is that offensive to them?

I like this approach to your post much more than your original. Not that I'm anyone. Just sharing my perspective.

I just got done side loading the update. Way to early to know if a lot of the bugs have been fixed but so far it appears to be smoother. Could be a placebo effect though. Time will tell if this is the case or not.

Sideload didn't work for me. It gets to 47% then aborts. I get error 7 contents of system partition don't match zip package. After trying this 4 times I've given up for the night. I'll try again tomorrow.

If you're rooted, it will fail. I had to dirty flash 5.01, except for the user.img? to restore phone to stock without losing any data, then applied the update. Once I applied the stock parts to remove root, it flashed with no issue and is working great.

Whenever a new version of Android is released, most of the other recent Nexus devices get it almost instantly. I don't think it's ignorant to expect the same on the newest Nexus device, which is what your post implies. Apple is able to release iOS versions the same day as they are announced, so it's not like it's impossible to do.

I believe 5.02 was for N7 only, or just limited amount of devices, it had nothing for N6 so they didnt deploy it there.
Tablets (wifi versions) always get their upgrade first, not sure if it has something to do with some radio certification phones/3g/lte hardware needs, or just different drivers, but it is always like this:
WIFI Tablets > 3g/lte tablets and phones

Anywya I believe you can use images posted by Central to upgrade your phone right of the bat (on your own responsibility tho!)

Seems like the T-Mobile customers that side loaded it have no problems, I wonder what's up with the wait to push the update then? I hope google makes a statement today or something!
