I hate the way this site and Droid-Life portrayed this as Apple's fault. It's click bait.
If Apple didn't buy the company that made the best fingerprint scanners then someone else would. And last time I checked there are intelligent people out there who can develop (and by that I mean copy) the technology. Even Samsung implemented a half way decent fingerprint scanner.
Like others I wouldn't use it. I don't use it on my Note 4 or iPhone 6, and I wouldn't use it on my N6. But Moto, don't blame Apple. It's not like it's a new technology. Next time have the foresight and beat Apple to the punch.
Yeah I don't know how much I would have used it myself.
For me, it's a novelty feature. Would have been cool to have, but it's not something I would have used as my security.
Interesting side point on legality with fingerprint scanners as a means to unlock devices versus passwords: Judge Rules Suspect Can Be Required to Unlock Phone With Fingerprint - Digits - WSJ
If you have something to hide just turn your phone off. After starting up, you must enter your PIN initially and the same judge ruled you cannot be compelled to enter your PIN.
